Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo’s new livery for the Laguna Seca MotoGP. It is a cool idea. There are 500 spots on each bike—for the new Fiat 500—each spot taken by pictures sent in by fans. I guess they filled up almost instantly.
Then, it happened. I entered the pedestrian tunnel that spans the track just past the start/finish line, and I was frozen in place by a horrific sound. For those of you familiar with the Lord of the Rings, I thought a freakin’ Balrog was coming at me from below. Apparently the MotoGP bikes were engaged in morning practice, and as they passed under the tunnel there was such an explosive din my internal organs all tried to switch places with each other. I looked at my companion and he, too, went pale. What fresh hell IS this?

"Laguna Seca MotoGP weekend is coming up. This is the first year that i haven’t gone since MotoGP came back to the states in 2005. I’m going to miss it.
I remember reading this back then and thinking, OMG that is it EXACTLY! The visceral experience of standing on the bridge and feeling the bikes thundering past was unbelievable.
